IS YOUR PET A STORY?

Someone wrote to us recently about a dog she takes to nursing homes and hospice facilities. This is a rescued dog who was thrown away by humans and left to fend for herself in a hostile world.

Did this dog become wary of people? Did it take awhile for the dog to learn to trust and love humans? The letter-writer didn't say.

But instead of harboring resentment and living in the past, the dog now brings comfort to people who are suffering and in pain. She does this naturally without expecting a return. Like so many other dogs, she's a master at selfless giving and unconditional love.

The woman mentioned that her dog had not revived anyone from a coma or done some dramatic act of heroism. This had led her to believe her dog didn't have a story she could tell.

We wrote back and encouraged her to write the dog's story. The process of writing would reveal to her how extraordinary her pet really is.

Many people write about their pets after they have died. How about writing now, while you have the gift of looking into their eyes and expressing your gratitude? It will be a way to honor and appreciate your pet here, now, in the moment.

And by the way, e-mail your stories to us. They may not be about "Lassie" saving the day, but other people could possibly enjoy reading them.

What about your pet? Could you write a story that chronicles the unique spirit and the blessings your dog, cat, bird, horse, rabbit, reptile, or whatever has brought into your life?

THIS 'N' THAT ABOUT ANGEL ANIMALS

THIS 'N' THAT ABOUT ANGEL ANIMALS

It has been a busy week here in Minneapolis. For us, it is all about the animals. We did a presentation at the Richfield Rotary Club to some wonderful people whose compassion seems to know no bounds. Earlier in the week we did an interview for an Internet radio station.

By Friday we heard from our editor that two amazing actors and animal lovers had sent endorsements for our new book, DOGS AND THE WOMEN WHO LOVE THEM. The book will be released November 1st but is available for pre-order on Amazon.com, bn.com, and borders.com.

Drum roll, please: Betty White, yes, THE Betty White has endorsed the book. Her co-star in the new comedy on TVLand, Wendie Malick also sent an endorsement. You may remember Wendie as the model in the long-playing TV series, "Just Shoot Me!" We are so very grateful for their support.

Now, everything is gearing up for our upcoming book launch and book tour. More about that later. Suffice it to say, this book has an energy that lives up to its title -- women and dogs who are unstoppable in their love and devotion.

The week rounded out with a relaxing trip to our favorite dog park where our cocker spaniel Leaf became the star of a new video clip series. We're calling it "Funny Dog -- Wisdom from the Dog Park." You can see Leaf's first four videos by going to www.angelanimals.net/dogparkwisdom.html.

You can also view and make comments about all four short videos on YouTube.com by searching for "Funny dog - Wisdom from the Dog Park".

We would also like to bring your attention to the release of a new book by our friend and a contributor to DOGS AND THE WOMEN WHO LOVE THEM. Jenny Pavlovic has just written a fantastic new book that every person with a dog should have. It is THE NOT WITHOUT MY DOG RESOURCE & RECORD.

The book contains essential information for you to keep about your dog for daily use and during travel or in emergencies. It has sections where you can insert current photos, contact information, and veterinarian records. The book prompts you to also list your dog's characteristics, feeding schedule, and unique personality. It has pockets for photos, certificates, and important papers along with disaster preparedness information and resources, a dog first aid kit checklist, and travel checklists. It truly is an invaluable resource that you will be so glad to have handy. You can order it at www.8StateKate.net.

What have been the Angel Animals highlights of your week?

A PLEA FOR HELP FROM THE GULF COAST

We don't publish every request for helping animals that we receive. We know that as an animal lover on the Internet, you are receiving e-mails everyday. But we want you to know about the efforts of our friend Jeff Dorson, executive director of the Humane Society of Louisiana. He works tirelessly for the Gulf Coast animals.

Jeff and all the other animal organizations on the Gulf Coast are faced with a crisis that equals or exceeds Hurricane Katrina proportions. The shelters, like Animal Rescue New Orleans www.animalrescueneworleans.org, are overflowing with animals that have been surrendered or "dumped" at their doors by people whose livelihoods are gone and they are leaveing the area.

But animal wildlife organizations are also severely affected by the oil spill. Jeff and Humane Society of Louisiana are trying to help them.

Please read Jeff's announcement below and do what you can to offer support, if you feel moved to participate. Thank you.

From: JEFF DORSON, Humane Society of Louisiana, www.humanela.org

We need your help in the Gulf! We are traveling by boat to some of the hardest-impacted areas, giving coordinates of animals in distress to wildlife agents.

We are also preparing to file a lengthly report with the local district attorney's office, asking that they charge BP with cruelty to animals, and we are hosting a two-day strategic planning conference on August 7th-8th in New Orleans to develop and implement new ways to help more animals.

Your donations will support all of these programs. We can't do this without outside help. Join Operation Here to Help and donate through our Cause page.
